Policies
Equal Educational Opportunity
No student
enrolled in the Conway Adult Education Program shall, on the grounds of race,
color, religion, national origin, sex, age, or disability be excluded from
participation in, or denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination
under any educational program or activity.
Rules and Regulations
The school
is a community, and the rules and regulations of a school are the law of that
community. All those enjoying the rights
of citizenship in the school community must also accept the responsibilities of
citizenship. A basic responsibility of
those who enjoy the rights of citizenship is to respect the laws of the
community.
Students
have the rights of citizenship as delineated in the United States Constitution
and its amendments; and these rights may not be abridged, obstructed, or in
other ways altered except in accordance with due process law.
Administrators,
teachers, and staff also have rights and duties. The teachers and staff are required by law to
maintain a suitable environment for learning and administrators have the
responsibility for maintaining and facilitating the educational program. It is a policy of the Center that all staff
members are not allowed to give students rides in their vehicles unless
approved by the Director if special circumstances exist. The following rules, regulations, and
procedures are designed to protect all members of the educational community in
the exercise of their rights and duties.
Abnormal or Irrational Behavior:
Any student
whose actions are abnormal or irrational shall be asked to leave the campus by
the teacher and/or the administrator in charge.
Cooperation with School Personnel:
All
students must obey the reasonable instructions of school district
personnel. Failure to do so will result
in being dismissed from the campus.
Disruptive Conduct:
Conduct
which materially and substantially interferes with the educational process is
prohibited. The student will be asked to
leave the campus immediately without explanation or question. The Director reserves the right to
permanently “ban” a disruptive adult student from returning to campus.
Dress Code
A student
shall be free to determine their dress and grooming as they see fit, as long as
their appearance does not substantially and directly endanger the physical
health and safety of others, damage property, or seriously and immediately
disrupt the educational process. The
following rules are used to determine clothing that is disruptive to the
educational process:
Shorts/Clothing:Shorts may be worn at school. Shorts, Mini-skirts, and other dress apparel must be worn no shorter in length than the fingertips with arms held to the side in a natural position. Gym shorts and biking shorts or any combination of the two will not be permitted. Shorts, jeans, or pants with holes above finger-tip length are not permissible, even if spandex shorts, gym shorts, or other apparel is worn underneath. Tight-fitting spandex-type leggings must be covered to finger-tip length. Men’s boxer shorts and pajamas will not be allowed. No sagging or baggy pants will be allowed. The administrator or designee will determine what is sagging.Shirts/Dresses:Any dress or top that has spaghetti straps, is backless, or exposes cleavage will not be
allowed. Straps on girls tops must be 1
½ inch wide. Short tops that expose any
part of the midriff or lower back will not be permitted. Mesh-type, see-through shirts, or tank tops
are not permitted unless a t-shirt is worn with them. Shirts with vulgarities or obscenities (e.g.
Big Johnson and Coed Naked) and shirts with advertisements of alcohol and/or
tobacco will not be permitted.
Gang Apparel:The wearing of gang attire by gang members and by other students who imitate them is not only disruptive, it is dangerous. This attire identifies those students to rival elements and could result in a challenge. Therefore, any apparel that can be related to being “Gang Attire” or worn in such a manner as being gang related will not be allowed. No sagging or baggy pants will be allowed. The administrator or designee will determine what is sagging.Food and Drink:
